It was odd how things like this happened so fast. Sophie was making a lot of money because of the chill that had just so happened to come with the fog that had rolled in.
She had been a little worried, though. Sitting in the tub and resting her head on the side, the looked around the back room where she had permanently set it. It didn't seem right to just go willy-nilly and strip down to nothing in the front room with the boys living here.
She ran her hand through the lukewarm water and wondered how long she'd been sitting here. She straightened herself up and looked at the small bump that had become quite apparent in the recent months. She tried to calm herself, saying that perhaps she'd just gained a few pounds over the winter. But...
She ran her hand over the bump and sighed. There really was no fooling herself anymore. She knew the consequences of that night she'd had with Cassus.
And speaking of Cassus... where was he? It had been days since she'd seen him. With a deep sigh, Sophie let herself slide down into the water.
She gave up on putting her usual corset on, and opted with a springy, white dress. It was loose. No one would be able to tell that the bump had gotten bigger. She ran her usual errands, checked the bulletin board, and stopped by Miss Malley's bakery to pick up some bread and jam.
"It's getting rather hard to hide, don't you think?" The old baker had said as she wrapped up Sophie's order. "Wh...whatever do you mean?" Sophie asked defensively.
The old lady smiled. "I know you're pregnant. There's no use in hiding it. Anyone with eyes can tell," She replied not rudely, but laced with wisdom from the years she'd been alive.
Sophie ran home and locked her doors, sliding down and hiding her head in her hands.
What would she do? What would she tell Cassus? How could she tell Cassus.
"What have I gotten myself into?" Sophie asked herself sullenly.
