Cassus frowned at his memory of coming across Alatus Nox. It wasn't sad or depressing, it was just... well, irritating. He put the pencil to paper and started to sketch out a rough outline of the town as he went over what he'd say.
"Well," he said, sighing, "it's weird. I left for some complicated reasons, but what's important is that I left where I came from. I crossed the Dunethra ocean from the Siopenne Mainland, came onto this one, and kept riding. At that point, the only thing I wanted to do was to just keep on riding east until... whenever. I didn't know.
"Tonight, today, whenever it was that I wound up here, I found that huge forest. I was riding through it, the tangled mess that it is, and then I saw this little beaten path. It was the only clearly blazed trail that I had found so far, so I decided to see where it lead. About halfway down, I realized that maybe it was a trap and I was going to turn back around, but it had disappeared behind me. Somehow, my tracks and the little path had vanished and the trees had wound together even thicker as I proceeded. All that was left was the rest of the path leading straight into town."
Cassus scribbled a few more things down.
"That's all there is to it. I haven't been able to find a way to get out of the forest yet. It's just so messy, and the trees are almost petrified, they're so hard to cut down."
Then, he showed Sophie his map with the little markings on it. It was an atrocious piece of artistry, if one would dare call it that, but it got across the point. There were several spots noted in a few corners that Cassus had known to be particularly shady.
"This little circle in the middle here is a post. It's the safest one with the best view of all the streets, so someone could see most shady things that go on. The other post is up here," he traced his finger to the edge of the slums, "where there's a lot of activity going on. There's a clear route that goes behind all of the hotspots that I've seen. The best part is that the two post routes cross, so if one person needs help, it's easy to get there. That, and if we interest any others in this, new posts can be added and will tie in seamlessly!"
He liked that he had made somewhat of a pun. Seamlessly. Sophie was a seamstress. Hah! He laughed inside.
