Personality: Nereus is alternately playful and aggressive, easy to agitate but difficult to fool, intelligent and quick witted.

Strengths: Speed in water and agility, some strength, keen eyesight and tactile sense. Long distance hearing in the water
Weaknesses: Weak sense of smell which can disorient him in the water if something unusual or toxic is present. His aggression can get in the way sometimes

History: Born into a large sized pod of thirty merpeople, Nereus was always considered too curious, even for their kind, and troublesome. He got into fights with younger mermen often until he was of mating age and then he fought all the males, usually to his loss, although the older men were careful to teach him a lesson without maiming him.
Recently he got into a fight with a male from another pod and the merman's brothers ganged Nereus and cut his hair which is a point of pride to the merpeople. Rather than face his pod shamed, he self-exiled, but got lost instead, caught in the River Abraham and the gypsy's curse prevents him from leaving although he doesn't know it.
